Several reports surfaced Wednesday indicating that Bears wide receiver Brandon Marshall would not be allowed to wear his lime green cleats for Thursday night's game against the Giants at Soldier Field.
Not so, an NFL spokesperson told the Tribune on Wednesday afternoon.
Marshall's vow to wear those lime green cleats as a means of promoting his foundation and its work with mental health awareness can go on as planned. The Bears receiver would face a fine for doing so -- which Marshall himself said he was anticipating when he spoke with reporters on Tuesday.
But the league said Marshall is "not being barred from entering the field" wearing the cleats.
According to the league's 2013 schedule of fines, the minimum fine for a uniform or equipment violation is $5,250 for a first offense. The penalty doubles for a second offense.
